Spanisimo Academy

This course is designed for non-native Spanish speakers who are interested in advancing their Spanish in a structured and consistent way.

This course aims to improve your Conversational Spanish language skills by developing your grammar, vocabulary, reading and speaking skills. Our in-house textbook has a theme related to the Latin America Culture, and students are able to discover these topics with our highly trained Guatemalan teachers. This course has 6 levels, and each session is consisted of 2 parts (Grammar and conversational).

Level Overview

A1 for Beginner
You will be able to use basic phrases and expressions.
B1 for Intermediate
You will be able to understand the main points regarding matters situated at work, school, leisure, etc.
C1 for Advanced
You will be able to express your ideas and opinions fluently.
A2 for Elementary
You will be able to communicate in a simple exchange of information.
B2 for Upper intermediate
You will be able to interact with a certain fluency.
C2 for Proficientry
You will be able to read easily and understand almost everything you hear.

A1 - Beginner

You can introduce yourself, and ask and answer basic personal questions. Furthermore you will achieve interacting in a simple way as long as the other person will adapt himself to you by talking slowly and clearly. You might need some help from the other person with formulating what you want to say.

Examples:
You can say your name and age, and talk about your family situation. In a restaurant you can ask simple questions about the menu. You can fill in basic information about yourself.

Spanisimo’s contributions:
This beginner’s level involves around personal introduction and memorization of basic phrases. Spanisimo’s theme in this level is ‘Traveling in Guatemala.’ By asking for directions, ordering food, checking into a hotel room, etc., you will learn the basics of the present tense.

A2 - Elementary

You will be capable of understanding frequently used sentences and expressions related to personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment, etc. You will also be able to describe your background, environments, and needs in simple terms.

Examples:
You can participate in a basic predictable conversation. You can find specific information on everyday material like timetables and advertisements.

Spanisimo’s contributions:
Just like level A1, is also this level related to the ‘Traveling in Guatemala’-theme. You will furthermore learn very useful vocabulary about daily routines. Through oral and written exercises regarding this travel topic, you will be able to learn the past tense.

B1 - Intermediate

When you are traveling in a Spanish speaking country with this Spanish level, you will able to deal with most situations. You will also be capable of producing simple texts on familiar or personal interest topics. You can expression your opinion and explain your plans, describe experiences, dreams, hopes, and ambitions.

Examples:
You can narrate a story and write personal letters containing events and experiences.

Spanisimo’s contributions:
In this level you will receive more information about the culture in Guatemala and Latin America. Important in this level are the progressive tenses (continuous or repeated actions): present progressive, past progressive, and future progressive. You will also learn about three different perfect tenses (these tenses show already completed actions): present perfect, past perfect and future perfect.

B2 - Upper intermediate

You are capable of understanding the main thoughts of more complex, concrete, but also abstract texts. By now, you can produce detailed texts about various subjects. You can express your opinion and a certain point of view on a certain topic by measuring and comparing the advantages and disadvantages.

Examples:
You can read articles and reports about contemporary problems. You can also understand the most part of movies and news on television.

Spanisimo’s contributions:
In this level you will receive more information about the culture in Guatemala and Latin America. Important in this level are the progressive tenses (continuous or repeated actions): present progressive, past progressive, and future progressive. You will also learn about three different perfect tenses (these tenses show already completed actions): present perfect, past perfect and future perfect.

C1 - Advanced

You are capable of understanding longer and more complex texts; you can recognize implicit meaning. Not only can you interact fluently, you can use language flexibly for academic and professional purposes. Producing clear, detailed, and well-structured texts on complex subjects won’t be a problem.

Examples:
You can understand technical texts, even when it’s not in your specialization field. You can understand movies and news without too much effort.

Spanisimo’s contributions:
In C1 you will discuss more about the culture of Latin America, with more interesting and complex topics. Your teacher will start explaining the imperative to you (command/order) and via exercises you will start practicing the subjunctive (grammatical mood used for subjective, doubtful and hypothetical statements or questions).

C2 - Proficiency

You are capable of summarizing information from spoken and written sources. Within this summarization you can reconstruct arguments and you can present them coherently. You can express yourself fluently and precisely. You can analyze and differentiate different meanings even in very complex situations.

Examples:
Even when native speakers speak at their normal speed, you won’t have troubles understanding them. You will be able to read literary works and you can write complex letters or reports.

Spanisimo’s contributions:
Spanisimo’s theme for the C2-level is ‘World topics’. You will talk about health, politics, economy, literature, sports, and other interesting topics. With personalized attention from the teacher and practice and motivation on your side, together you will focus on more tenses of the subjunctive (present perfect subjunctive and past perfect subjunctive).
